Testosterone is a naturally occurring sex hormone that is derived from the testicles of a biological male. Although males produce 20 times more testosterone than their female counterparts, testosterone is, however, secreted in small amounts from the ovaries (and adrenal glands) of biological females. In this post we will discuss testosterone and its role in men. Testosterone: More than just a “sex” hormone. Testosterone is both a hormone and a steroid and is responsible for the development of typical masculine physical features and characteristics, such as facial hair, a deepened voice, and increased muscle mass. Although testosterone is most often associated with sex drive or libido, it’s plays far more important roles than this. It is associated with the production of red blood cells and sperm in males. It is also responsible for a wide array of metabolic functions such as regulating muscle mass, strength, bone density, and fat distribution. Less commonly known influences of testosterone are the emotional and cognitive implications such as mood, memory, and motivation. Do you think you may have low testosterone?

While symptoms of low testosterone vary considerably from person to person, typical symptoms include:

· Low sex drive

· Erectile dysfunction

· Inability to produce or maintain an erection

· Softer erections

· Weight gain

· Depressed mood

· Fatigue

· Low motivation

What do you do if you experience symptoms of low testosterone?

There are so many options available for men dealing with symptoms caused by low testosterone. After a thorough health history and bloodwork is obtained by your provider, and you are deemed a candidate for testosterone replacement therapy, the best regimen will then be provided for you. Testosterone can be administered via injections, gel, patches, nasal, and pellets. If there are other conditions that need to be treated or corrected in addition to testosterone, those will be addressed as well.

At Restored Health, we believe that treating hormonal deficiencies plays a vital role in living a balanced and happy life, full of energy and vitality. Take back your health so you can feel your best! Call us or book an appointment for more information regarding Testosterone replacement therapy.

Five Ways to Keep You and Your Family Safe This Winter https://restoredhealthcenter.com/five-ways-to-keep-you-and-your-family-safe-this-winter/ https://restoredhealthcenter.com/five-ways-to-keep-you-and-your-family-safe-this-winter/#respond Sat, 31 Dec 2022 15:52:29 +0000 https://restoredhealthcenter.com/?p=1260 When we think of winter what comes to mind are cozy fluffy blankets, hot chocolate near the fire place, and of course the joyous holiday season. When we think of winter what comes to mind are cozy fluffy blankets, hot chocolate near the fire place, and of course the joyous holiday season.

Unfortunately, winter time is also the season of colds, flus, and trips to urgent care or the emergency room. The good news is there are ways to safeguard you and your family from potentially dangerous viruses and bacteria this winter. Here are five ways to help keep everyone in your family protected from germs that may be lurking in your home.

1) Wash Your Hands

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) highlights that handwashing is one of the easiest and most effective ways to avoid getting sick. Those brief 20 seconds of thoroughly washing our hands with soap and water helps to reduce germs and prevent their spread. If you cannot get to a sink, your next best bet is hand sanitizer. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are also great way to reduce germs from hands, but keep in mind that they cannot replace a good hand washing session. Soap and water will always be more effective than hand sanitizer, so if you can, choose handwashing instead.

2) Clean and Disinfect Household Surfaces

Germs can live and thrive off surfaces in your home and can eventually make it into your body. By cleaning and disinfecting the most commonly used surfaces, you can help reduce those germs and contaminants that can potentially cause illnesses to those in your home.

Use appropriate cleaning products (wipes, sprays etc.) to clean and disinfect common heavy traffic surfaces in your home such as:

· Kitchen and bathroom counters

· Door knobs and handles

· Staircase railings

· Light switches

· Remote controls

· Toilet bowl handles and seats

· Faucets

· Cell phones and other mobile devices

· Remote controls

Here is a resource for more information on how to properly clean and germ-proof your home.

3) Make Your Health a Priority

Prioritizing your overall health is the foundation of building a healthy immune system. Your immune system is remarkable in protecting you against disease causing microorganisms. However, in order for your immune system to function at its best it requires a healthy body which can be achieved through diet, exercise, stress reduction and adequate sleep. Being overweight, smoking, not getting enough sleep, and experiencing excessive stress can lower immune function, which can leave you particularly vulnerable to sickness. So, take care of your health and body to keep your immune system in optimal condition.

4) Keep up to date with vaccines

Getting the appropriate, recommended immunizations can help protect us from potentially dangerous illnesses such as the flu, pneumonia, and now COVID-19. Talk to your healthcare provider to find out if you meet the criteria for certain vaccines in order to protect yourself as well as protecting others from getting ill.

5) See a Healthcare Provider If Needed

Most of the time colds and flus go away on their own after about 1-2 weeks. At home treatments such as rest, fluids, over-the-counter cough medicine/fever reducers are more than enough to provide symptom relief for time being. However, if symptoms are getting significantly worse such as shortness of breath, a fever that won’t budge despite taking fever reducers, or symptoms lasting longer than 10-14 days it might be time to see a healthcare provider. It may be best at this point to go to an urgent care center for treatment to prevent complications.

At Restored Health, we offer Telehealth visits for cough and colds if you feel the need to see someone in the comfort of your own home. While there may be a possibility that a trip to urgent care may be required based on severity of symptoms, most of the time they can be safely treated via a telehealth visit.

Fads come and go, and it may seem that IV hydration may appear to be the latest craze, boasting too good to be true health benefits. Let’s take a deeper dive into some of the claims of IV hydration. What it is and why you may benefit from it.

So, what is IV hydration?

Intravenous, or “inside the vein”, hydration is the process of infusing fluids and a potent concentration of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and even supplements directly to the blood stream via a small needle into the vein. This method of administration is superior to taking vitamins by mouth, because your stomach naturally contains a large amount of acid that can potentially destroy a majority of these vitamins making them lose their nutritional value. So, by going directly into the bloodstream it allows for rapid administration of nutrients that gets readily absorbed by your cells leaving you feeling refreshed and energized.

What’s so special about IV hydration?

Ok, so your body is made up of over 60% water, so it’s safe to say that water is required for survival. Consuming enough water is essential for everything from maintaining energy levels and a healthy weight, helping the body remove waste and toxins, and even reducing the severity of hangovers. What makes IV hydration special is that in less than an hour you will have infused your body with a preservative free, proprietary blend of potent high dose vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that wouldn’t normally be tolerated if taken orally. What’s more, is that you feel the effects of the infusion in one session that would probably take months of taking regular supplements.

What are some of the benefits of IV Hydration?

While IV hydration is not a cure all for all health conditions nor is it a substitute for a healthy lifestyle, there are however, endless benefits to IV hydration. Some of these benefits include:

· Aids in weight loss

· Helps boost and support a healthy immune system

· Assists the body in detoxification

· Has anti-aging benefits

· Helps with exercise and athletic recovery

· Improves sleep

· Decreases inflammation

· Effective for hangovers

At Restored Health, we will obtain a thorough health history and evaluation prior to initiating any infusion. Start your path to wellness by supercharging your overall health with IV hydration therapy.

Losing weight isn’t easy and it certainly takes planning, dedication, and commitment. Often times people get overwhelmed by looking at the bigger picture or focusing on how much total weight they have to lose. The best approach to sensible weight loss is tackling it into small steps, especially if there is a large amount of weight to lose. Focus on losing just 5%-10% of your body weight at time. Weight loss is a journey and many people envision only the destination which can sometimes get discouraging. So instead of thinking of the 50 or 100 pounds to lose, work towards just losing the first 10 pounds. That goal might seem small to some, but a 10-pound weight loss actually provides significant health improvements. Here are 5 benefits of shedding just 5-10% of your body weight.

1) Reduction in Joint Pain

You don’t have to lose 50, 60, or 70 pounds of weight for your joints to benefit. Losing even a modest amount of weight will remove a significant amount of stress and pressure off of your joints. Also, excess weight causes inflammation which damages joints as well. Protect your joints by shedding the extra weight now to reduce your chances of arthritis later.

2) Improvement in Blood Pressure

Carrying around excess weight can make your heart work harder and makes blood push more forcefully against the walls of your arteries, which is what we call blood pressure. By losing even 5% of body weight we can lower that pressure and reduce the amount of work the heart has to do in order to circulate blood throughout the body.

3) Better Sleep

Because people who are overweight tend to have more fat surrounding the back of their throat, this can increase their chances of developing a condition called obstructive sleep apnea. This happens when your airway for breathing is blocked and can result in a number of health problems. Losing even a small amount of weight helps with improving breathing during sleep.

4) Reducing Inflammation

Excess fat cells in the body can produce chemicals that promotes inflammation. Inflammation can increase the risk of cardiovascular complications, stroke, diabetes, and even cancer. Losing weight, even a small amount, decreases the overall amount of inflammation in the body.

5) More Sensitivity to Insulin

Insulin is a hormone that allows glucose, or sugar, to be used by the cells in the body, which helps control blood sugar levels. The more fat there is in the body, the less sensitive it becomes to insulin, a condition known as insulin resistance. When a person becomes insulin resistant, their body requires more and more insulin for sugar to be used by their cells to function. As a result, the body will struggle to maintain normal blood sugar levels. Less sugar will be used up by the actual cells and more will just be sitting blood causing elevated blood sugars which can eventually lead to diabetes and other complications. Losing weight, especially combined with exercise, improves the body’s sensitivity to insulin so it can be used efficiently by the body.
